Patch released Dec. 5th, 2012

Unit balances:

Highlights:

-Widow mine no longer hits invisible units
-Thor has new mode for Anti-Air specifically
-Medevacs buffed.
-Upgrades for ship and ground machine are now the same.

-Mothership vortex no longer affects massive units
-Phoenix buffed
-Void Ray's nerfed

-Zerg heavily nerfed (Infestor, Ultralisk especially)

Ultra definitely looked like it was getting a little OP, with the burrow charge.

Any news on release dates yet? I'm too lazy to look this shit up   ;)

New patch coming around, and it's a massive one.

Jzn and I play SC2: WoL as a team ocassionally, and half the time we are killed because I do not tech fast enough to get Siege tanks and Siege Mode for those tanks. That won't be a problem in HotS.

Highlights:

Reapers - No longer require a tech lab, but are also nerfed in speed and damage.
Hellbats - A little faster, but a bit weaker overall
Medevacs and Seekers - nerfed in a few ways
Siege Tanks - No longer require research to achieve Siege Mode

Protoss - Mothership has lost the Vortex ability, and a few skills have switched between the Oracle and the Mothership Core

Zerg - Infestors have had their Fungal Growth damage slightly nerfed, Mutalisks have had a skill renamed.

In 2 months, the game releases.

Whoa, what? no kidding, major patch!

I'm not sure how I feel about that. It was always a kinda strange ability, but I feel like it shook the game up a lot.

Yeah, this patch is definitely geared towards buffing Terran, while leaving Zerg and Protoss largely the same.

I think the two biggest changes though, would be the Siege Tank buff and the Reaper buff. Now, you can early game Reaper Rush extremely easy, even though they aren't as powerful, and you can use Siege as a counter to most rushes, while reinvesting that money you would normally pour into those to other early game fun stuff.

Also, the nerfing of the Infestors was clearly a way to try and weaken the obvious Zerg endgame, as well as taking Vortex out of the game for Protoss.

Should be interesting to see what the final few patches do before the release in 2 months.

thanks for the info mac!  I hope they keep shaking things up.  When brood war came out after vanilla starcraft, it was like a whole new game.  They wont be able to amp up the experience quite as much as BW did, but im looking forward to the changes for sure.

That's definitely true. The removal of vortex just jumped out at me because it's such a spectacular skill, and I remember there was a ton of hype over it before the initial release.

I'm not so sure - I think they're changing the dynamic enough that it is practically a whole new game, plus they're adding on a whole new campaign. And if there's one thing Blizzard is really, really good at (aside from making games, ofc) it's hyping their games.

Brood War was pretty revolutionary, but I think Starcraft 2: WoL has opened a whole new universe. We now have Major League Gaming, which has become dominant because of SC2 and all the competition. The storyline was superb, and was a nice refresher from the normal storyline linear feel, and opened a whole new can of worms for the SC lore. And oh, while doing all this, it's also kept itself F2P.

I can't wait for HotS to be released fully, get me some new campaign and get to trashing some more n00bs.
