Off-Topic / I need to bitch about work

So, my property owners have been in negotiations with the bank trying to get their loan reduced. See, they were stupid and bought the property for $40 million in the peak of the real estate boom (the guy they bought it from paid $7 million and sold at the right time). Apparently the negotiations haven't been going to well because out of the blue 4 guys from Rhode Island show up saying they are the new court appointed receivers (babysitters for companies).

All the employees had to fill out new paperwork, which now includes a credit check, our pay schedule is going from once a week to twice a month (we may or may not be paid this week). Oh yeah, no employees can live on property anymore so I'm currently house hunting which wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have a mom and two nephews who lived on property with me. Finding a pet friendly house is hard enough, finding a pet friendly house with 4 bedrooms is going to be a bitch.

We're all on a trial basis until they figure out if they like the staff or not, or if the staff can conform to their new rules. Visible tattoos will have to be covered, no facial hair beyond a mustache, new uniforms (no more pajamas and slippers for me), and some other crap I won't learn until I read the 40 page manual.

So, pretty shitty day for me. Luckily, I was able to escape for the day but I have to spend all day with them tomorrow.

Off-Topic / Spring Break

The first week of Spring Break is almost over and tomorrow starts the next wave of drunk, and ignorant college students flooding to my hotel. Last night I looked out the window to the beach and saw a group of people building a mound out of the sand. The next time I looked out they had smoothed out the top of it and set it up as a beer pong table. I didn't get a picture thanks to the rain destroying it.

So far this week has been pretty mild. I had one guy run through the parking lot wearing nothing but his underwear. I had another guy who left his pants in the parking lot, and then knocked on every door trying to find his room. He then gave up and decided it would be a good idea to jump the fence and hang out in the hot tub. My husband walked him to his room and told his friends to duct tape him to the chair or he would. I've seen 3 pairs of random boobies, and almost puked when one of my snowbirds was putting suntan lotion on one of the spring breakers. A man in his 70's should not be rubbing lotion into a 20 something year old.

The greatest so far would have to of been the phone call yesterday. A room calls and says "My friend just came into my room took a massive shit and left, can we have a plunger." It was so random and the guy thought nothing of it. He told maintenance that his friend had Whataburger and took a Whatashit. Easily made our day.

We shall see what the next week brings us.

Other Games / Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Installed this game today and just played for 5 hours, time flies when you're kicking ass.
Initial thoughts:
This game is hard as hell. You start out with the absolute basics (meaning rifle and pistol). You have to unlock the ammo kits, health kits and defibs where they were provided for you in the other battlefield games.
Play style is the same as the beta, which means new players are going to have a tough time finding the enemies and figuring out the difference between friends and foes.
Helicopter controls are completely different than every other game. You see a lot of newbies crashing them off the helipad.
A few of the beta things I loved, like running up the hills to snipe from, have been removed. They also removed the ability to blow up the MCOM's with C4 (I'm for that change).
I'll give a real update once I get the update loaded and can play a proper game.

EA has once again screwed up. When you install the game there is no prompt to download a patch. You have to dig through your C drive, program files, and electronic arts folder to find the updater. If you do not update you will see a maximum of 10 servers all playing the beta map.
I'm updating now, well trying too. I've been having issues with that too. I'm thinking it's because I still had the beta installed. I uninstalled it and am trying again.

My graphics card was overheating to the point of actually shutting down my computer. I solved that problem by cleaning out my fans. I had an intake fan at the front of my case below the drives that was completely clogged. The poor fan wasn't even moving. Since then, I haven't had any overheating issues. No more wonky graphics, no more computer shutting down, and when I touch my card it's still relatively cool.

Yesterday I started getting a new issue. My monitor randomly loses signal. The monitor stays on according to the light. The light is usually blue when it's on and switches to orange if you turn off the comp before the monitor. Now on 4 different occasions my monitor lost signal yesterday. The comp was still on, drives, fans, lights were all still running but my monitor displayed the no signal dialog and the light went from blue to orange. The only way to get it back on was to reboot.

I need input:
Anyone have this problem?

My theories are that it's either my psu, graphics card, or possibly the monitor. What do you think?

Off-Topic / 4th of July on the beach

4th of July this year was kicked off at 6:30 pm with the traditional 'burning of the sea oats'. For those of you unfamiliar with this tradition I will explain it for you. Every year some idiot either shoots a bottle rocket off their balcony or flicks a cigarette into the sea oats on the dunes and sets them on fire. This is followed by flames reaching up to 12 feet high, guests trying to play the hero with a fire extinguisher and we added a new element this year - the 'flying Jasmine'.

The Flying Jasmine should be a tradition in it's own right and consists of my desk clerk (Miss Jasmine) grabbing a fire extinguisher from the office, flying down the stairs, running 300 feet, leaping over steps and small railings only to save the day.

Of course, I couldn't get any pictures or anything because all 143 rooms had to call the office to report the fire instead of dialing 911 like normal people. We put the fire out safely and then had to explain what happened to 2 not so happy firemen. They were nice enough to wet my sea oats for me so it wouldn't happen again.

Once it got dark and the sun deck filled with people fireworks started up and down the beach. You could see 2 shows put on by the city, and of course the amateur fireworks.

At about 9:30 we noticed the fireworks stand being hauled down the beach signaling the anticipation. At 10:00 the show started.

I wasn't able to get to much video thanks to my itty bitty memory card (oops, grabbed the wrong one), but I do have 41 seconds to share with you.

The cpu binding thing is for your processor. It allows the game to switch between cores freely if something is bogging one of the cores down. Try it. If it doesn't help just remove it from the target path.

I talked my nephew into putting down WoW and buying S2. I started a Dryad so I could play with him and enjoyed playing it so much that I decided the Dryad will be my next HC character.

Here's the build I plan:

Ravaged Impact:
  • Bronze ^ - Perforate: Chance to cause open wounds (damage over time)
  • Silver v - Trail: Projectiles will home in on its target
  • Gold v - Double Shot: Fires two shots in quick succession

Darting Assault:
  • Bronze v - Edged: Increases damage dealt by Darting Assault
  • Silver v - Wounding: Chance that a successful hit will leave the opponent with an open wound (damage over time)
  • Gold v - Rotate: The attack is directed at opponents all around the Dryad

I stumpled upon www.sacred2.net (have to put in the w's), although I think I remember Chtullu mentioning their ladder, and I'm absolutely thrilled with this site. It's still in beta, and the arrow keys for switching between my characters doesn't work but it's a great way to keep up with everyones progress.

I was trying to figure out what version Smithy was playin' to see if the fix that worked for him on 2.34 was for the UK or US servers. I pulled up the profile and clicked view last posts. The text with the time/date of the post is black and really hard to read. Just a minor annoyance though.

It's Christmas time in Ancaria, and we have a new content update for you to help celebrate! In addition to some important fixes, Content Update Patch 2.34 adds some new seasonal content for you to enjoy. The new content includes more sets as well as an island for you to find and explore.

Version 2.34.0 includes the following:

New Content:

    * New area with 24 aboveground sectors and about 6 additional underground
      sectors
    * New textures and objects to create a snowy landscape
    * Additional sounds for the snowy landscape
    * 20 new creatures
    * New NPCs
    * New full quest chain
    * Additional armor set for each character
    * New armor items and weapons

Hint: The Christmas Island is shrouded in mystery so you can't see it on the world map. To begin your journey to it, find and speak to the Kobold in Thylysium, then sail to the port he unlocks.

Fixes:

    * It was not possible to load an old save after patching, if the
      character in the old save had an item in their hand (held by the mouse
      pointer) at the time the save occurred.
    * Characters over lvl 61 were unable to create game channels (only able
      to join them).
    * Sometimes after rebirth at a resurrection monolith, the character
      started at an incorrect position on the map leading to a dead end.
    * The fourth Guardian of the Big Machine could sometimes be killed while
      it still idled. This skipped the end boss fight.
    * Crystal Monster: The lightbeam adjustment didn’t rotate which led to
      confusion about why the hero was stunned.
    * When tabbing out of the game then going back, the position of the
      mounted hero had changed.
    * Temple Guardian’s “Amplifying Discharge” with Mods 1b & 2b "
      Ricochet": Rebounding projectiles did not cause further damage after
      the first rebound.
    * Temple Guardian’s “Combat Alert” with Mod 1a "Assault": The
      increase in attack value was not shown on the tooltip.
    * Temple Guardian’s “Dedicated Blow”: The damage conversion for
      'prone to ice' for fire elementals converted damage into poison.
    * High Elf’s “Blazing Tempest” dealt too much damage.
    * High Elf’s “Fire Demon” with just achieved mod "Enliven": The
      increased damage was only visible after changing the CA slots. New
      damage is now instantly shown.
    * High Elf’s “Glacial Thorns” dealt too much damage and caused
      massive frame rate fall off when used on bosses.
    * The “Fire Demon” and “Moribund Animus” buffs restarted
      automatically. Now you need to reactivate them again manually.
    * Inquisitor‘s “Ruthless Mutilation” didn’t work properly with
      ranged weapons.
    * Shadow Warrior’s “Rallied Souls” with Mod 1a "Armament"
      resistance values were too high.
    * Seraphim’s “Archangel's Wrath” with Mod 1b "Salve": Additional
      fireball was added but damage didn’t decrease.
    * At the end of a combat-art move the Dryad erroneously shot another
      round of shuriken/knifes.
    * Dryad’s Hireling “Moribund Animus” no longer lies down every few
      seconds.
    * It was possible to forge high-level items into low-level weapons and
      armor. This could lead to overpowered items. Now the highest level of
      the forged items will be the new level of the item.
    * Slot boni on forged items didn’t work properly. Now silver slots give
      7 % bonus and gold slots give 15 % bonus.
    * Item bonus "+x to all CA’s" didn’t work correctly.
    * Monster attacks had a motionblur-effect that lasted too long.
    * The audio option “Character Effects on Center” had no effect on
      playback in 5.1 surround sound.
    * Several sound issues fixed for boss music, deathsplatter-effect and
      unique items.
    * Missing sound profiles added for T-mutant Human and High Elves as well
      as for new mini-bosses.
    * All sounds were initiated with a short snapping sound.
    * Singleplayer CoOp: When you started an SP game and opened the game as
      MP, the server started without a name. Now the name is
      CharacternameXXXX where XXXX stands for a random 4 digit number.
    * Rivers had dust clouds instead of water splashes.
    * Inventory picture for “Celdrahil's Gloves” was missing.

The Content Update Patch can be downloaded via the homepage http://update.sacred2.com manually or by executing the “sacred2updater.exe” located in the root-folder of the game. The file is just over 250mb.

Note: Before updating, what is called MD5 checks will run against the complete Sacred 2 installation to be updated. Any corrupt or modified game files found will prevent the installation of the update.

In these cases we suggest reinstalling Sacred2 from scratch, as there appears to be a problem somewhere in the current installation.

Changes to the movies and fonts do not affect the MD5 check.

The 2 MD5 checks will lead to a longer update time (aprox. 5 minutes/check). Thereafter, the patching itself is faster.

Was just playing and saw a system message saying they've found the main quest bug and the servers are in the process of being patched.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel / R.I.P - The HC Graveyard

Well, I thought it was time that someone start the graveyard thread. Seeing as how I lost two characters this weekend, I thought that person should be me.

My level 17 high elf died this weekend on Seraphim Island. I was playing with a level 21 and we were having no problem clearing out the elementals on the island. During our clearing the level 21 found a Seraphim item and tried to give it to me. I declined because, well, I'm was a high elf. She then told me "You can always make a Seraphim". I replied with "I've gotta kill this one first, I'm out of character slots."

So we travel into the cave for the main story quest and a level 30 joined. While I was at the merchant a very sneaky earth elemental snuck up behind me and one shotted me.

I forgot the HC mantra - Never joke about death or tell someone to stay safe

I deleted and remade a Seraphim. I was actually enjoying her and got her all the way up level 14. While hanging out in a free server with some of my [D.A.R.K] friends I got bored of the chit chat and decided to get some levels. I was tired of running through Sloeford and Thylysium so I used the cave on the start island to port me just below Clearview.

I had the black loading screen for a few seconds, then saw the starting island again with the words character saved. I had no character, couldn't move, couldn't chat, nothing. I relogged and came back to a dead character.

About an hour or two later the servers shut down for maintenance, so lets hope that was an isolated incident.
