Title: Seasons coming to Diablo 3
Post by: McAlison on June 26, 2014, 08:39:24 AM
From the PTR Realm updater:

Quote
New Feature: Seasons
Seasons are an optional, recurring game mode that offers players the opportunity to periodically start fresh, leveling Normal or Hardcore characters from scratch without gold, resources, or previously earned Paragon experience. Similar to the separation between Normal and Hardcore game modes, Seasonal characters will have their own shared stash and artisan progression as well. Any items, gold, or Paragon experience earned during a Season will be rolled over to a player's non-Seasonal characters once the Season concludes.

Seasons offer unique rewards and new challenges for players, including new Legendaries, an exclusive Transmogrification set only available to those who compete in each Season, and new achievements called Conquests. Progress within a given Season will be tracked in our new Leaderboard system.

If people want to get together, form groups and compete on this leaderboard, hit me up.

I'm down for some group laddering, for sure!

I'm pretty good with monk / barb, but I can play whatever the group needs if we've got too much tank in the composition.

Sounds interesting. I may be up for it, though right now I'm playing a bunch of DayZ

I've honestly played something like 10,000 hours WD and nothing else substantial, so whatever works.

I'll probably make a guy specifically for group hardcore leveling and a separate toon to have on the side. Do I have you on Battle tag, Tradge? McAlison#1894

Sounds like the 4 month leagues and/or races in PoE.

thought same thing but its a really good system so they are smart to adopt it just like PoE and all other diablo clones are smart to take what works from blizzard.

I actually checked to make sure I could still log in to D3, surprised my account hasn't been stolen by now.  I may pick it up again actually.

I agree. The aRPG/Diablo clone genre is based on taking things from each other and sometimes improving them. Well all gaming genres and programming in general but it seems to happens much faster and often in aRPG/Diablo clone genre and they do it much more shamelessly. My post was mainly a "I see where they got that from" post. There is a reason I didn't phrase it like "THEY JUST STOLE IT FORM POE!!!!11!!1! BURN D3 GO DIE IN A HOLE ALREADY!!!1!1!!!".

Diablo 2 had a resetting ladder.. Pretty sure that came out before PoE, and is the exact same thing.

;)

Wasnt it like a year long ladder though or something?  The shorter duration + special mechanics that only exist in the "seasonal" league is where I would say PoE had a influence.  The problem is if you don't like the special mechanics you are kinda boned for 4 months until the next one hopefully has better mods so it can be a double edged sword.

Do you need the expansion for the seasonal D3 ladders?

This was my thought too. A short league/ladder that has new/different things added is different from a longer ladder with only normal gameplay.

Wc3 had short seasons, maybe not prizes, but WoW does have seasonal pvp prizes :)

So does some chess leagues. Ha!

I believe you do need RoS to play in the ladders. Not 100% on that though.

Nothing is new under the sun; it's all been stolen from me.

In preparation for the launch of Patch 2.1.0, the PTR servers will be brought offline this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT. At that time, players will no longer be able to log in to the PTR client, all PTR accounts (including character information) will be reset, and our PTR forums will be marked as read-only.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the Patch 2.1.0 PTR. You've done an awesome job of testing the new content, and we greatly appreciate the feedback you provided during this phase of the game’s development.

We look forward to releasing Patch 2.1.0 to the public shortly. We hope you all enjoy Greater Rifts, Seasons, and all the other content included in this update. We’ll see you in Sanctuary soon!

I've been on a break from D3 waiting for the patch, so will be good to get back into it and check it out.
